3D Angiogram of Temporal Lobe AVM
3D angiogram showing a lateral view (from the side) of a cerebral arterial venous malformation (AVM) (blue). Angiography is a specialized type of x-ray where a contrast agent (or dye) is injected into the blood vessels, during which many x-rays are taken and used to generate a 3D image of the blood vessels examined. A brain AVM (arterial venous malformation) is a congenital abnormality of the blood vessels. Normally there are arteries, veins and capillaries. In an AVM there is no capillary bed. Instead there is a conglomeration of abnormal blood vessels which are neither normal arteries or veins. An AVM in the brain can be serious, causing headaches or stroke-like symptoms.
