Police officers try to remove a climate activist from a wrecked car in which he is stuck together with a manhole cover. The wrecked car is fixed with a sturdy pillar as a barricade on an access road to Lützerath in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The activists have been occupying the village for more than two years to prevent it from disappearing from the face of the earth, as agreed in a deal negotiated by political leaders. Energy company RWE mines lignite there, which activists blame for global warming and CO2 pollution. Early this morning, police began evacuating the village.
