Atthe end of one year, the baby usually has sixteeth; at eighteen months he should havetwelve teeth and at two years he should havesixteen teeth. While the teeth usually appear at from six to nine months, and whilea regular order of appearance is usually followed, there is wide variationboth in the time and in the order of appearance, so that the mother neednot be concerned if the exact order is not followed, nor if there is delayin appearance. In case the teeth are greatly delayed in appearance, the doctor shouldbe consulted. While there may be great discomfort associated with teething andwhile there may even be such symptoms as increased bowel movements,occasional vomiting and fretfulness, many of the ills charged to teethingare not due to it at all.
