Berlin, Mitte. Tränenpalast,Palace of and museum tells of border experiences of people living in a divided listed building is a historical monument. The building built in 1962 at Friedrichstraße train station in Berlin and was used until 1990 as a departure terminal for people leaving the GDR for West Berlin. The border was closed to East Berliners and the centre was the site of many sad farewells. In 2011 it was redeveloped as a permanent exhibition venue by the foundation known as the "Stiftung Haus der Geschichte der Bundesrepublik Deutschland". The exhibition, ’Border Experiences: Everyday Life in a Divided Germany’ (‘GrenzErfahrungen. Alltag der Deutschen Teilung’) tells of the effects of this division and border on the daily lives of Germans
