Spermatogenesis varies among the different classes of vertebrateanimals ; tlic account here given refers to man and the highermammals. The originally round spermatoblasts soon exhibit a tendency toelongate and to become pyriform ; several such cells, with partially-formed spermatic filaments, are often crowded together by the pressureof the surrounding elements, and, in consequence, come to lie inclose relation and in apparent union with the centrally projectingprotoplasm of the sustentacular cells.
