When the 'Veteran' objected she 'sauced back.' Indeed she has a proclivity for rows ? had one at Westfarms with some fellow boarder whose side the landlady espoused ? which landlady Lotty owed $20 for a months board, as she told me. How characteristic and peculiar are these waspishnesses in detail as contrasted with her real self-sacrifice and generosity towards Alleyne.
