Dockyard workers carry on maintenance works on the hull of a ship in are twenty-eight dockyards occupying acres of the Buriganga foreshore where ships, launches, and steamers of various sizes and shapes are built and repaired. They have continued to operate for the last 50 years without any authorization or guidelines, thus polluting the river and encroaching into the riverbank, reducing its navigability.
