But in addition to his keen interest inbee-keeping, he also found time for otherpursuits, taking a special pride in hisgarden and its products, and all horti-cultural work. In this connection he wasawarded several prizes at various horti-cultural shows during the last few years,receiving, among other awards, the_ cham-pionship certificate for horticultural workgiven bv the Derbyshire County Council. THE LATE MR. JOHN STONE. bronze medals and other prizes at thecounty shows. Ho was also the first mem-ber to win the silver challenge cup (pre-sented by J. L. P. Barber, Esq., ,Chairman of the Association), and havingwon it three years in succession it wasdecided that he should hold the cup ashis own. Mr. Stone then kindly presenteda similar cup to the Association to becompeted for as before. Mr. Stones apiary, at the time of hisdeath, consisted of forty eight stocks, in-cluding seventeen swarms hived this had for a number of years officiatedas judge at local flower shows, where Technical Education Committee. He alsosecured the second-class certificate of theSt. Jolui Ambulance Association, and inaddition held the office of churchwarden ofhis parish for fourteen years, besides beingfor many vears school manager. Mr. Stone was married twice, and leavesa widow, two sons, and three daughters tomourn his loss. The funeral took place on
