Sitges Carnival 2015. The Sitges Carnival is known as one of the greatest in Spain. This year the carnival will be held from February the 12h until February the 18th, 2015. Sitges Carnival features colourful parades with scantily dressed party people, street music, bands, and revelers with superlunary costumes. The two biggest parades of the festival both feature around 50 floats and annually there are more than participants at the Sitges Carnival. Sitges is located about 30 kilometres South from Barcelona, so if you are in Barcelona you can easily access Sitges by train. There are many activities and festivities at the Sitges Carnival. The Sitges carnival features parades, folk-dancing, xatonades (traditional local salad served with omelette’s) and more! Just as the carnival in Barcelona, the carnival begins on Fat Thursday (”Jueves Ladaro”). On this day the arrival of King Carnival (”Rei Carnestoltes”) will be celebrated, and the festival will officially start. The King will arrive at La Fragata for the opening ceremony. The party will continue until Ash Wednesday, the 18th of February. On this day the festival will come to an end with the traditional Burial of the Sardine (”Enterrament de la sardine”). For the younger children there will be children’s carnival parades in which they can participate. These parades will be on Sunday and Tuesday afternoon. The Debauchery Parade & The Extermination Parade The two biggest parades of the carnival are the Debauchery Parade (”Rua de la Disbauxa”) and the Extermination Parade (”Rua de l’Extermini”). These parades both take place in the evening. The Debauchery Parade. When: Sunday 15th of February. Route: Cap de la Vila, Parellades, Bonaire, Passeig de la Ribera, Fragata, l’Avinguda Sofia and then the way back to Carrer Espanya,Plaça Espanya, Espalter, Sant Francesc, Cap de la Vila.
