Yeast carbon dioxide test. Student measuring the temperature of a water bath that is being used to heat a stoppered test tube containing a yeast and sucrose solution. The test tube at right (connected via a delivery tube) contains lime water that has turned cloudy. This cloudiness is a positive test for carbon dioxide, indicating that the fermentation of the yeast in the presence of heat is producing this gas.
