In some respects the skies are brighter: (1) In the receipts of thefirst nine months of the Societys fiscal year—April, 1887, to January,1888—there has been a gain in donations and legacies of more than$22,800 over the same months last year. (2) The money is on handfor the notes to banks, falling due in January and February. (3) Weare notified of a number of recent bequests, several of them of con-siderable amounts. (4) The work in nearly every part of the field isgoing forward as prosperously as could reasonably be expected underthe restricted outlay. (5) Cheering letters from the Societys friendsexhort to patience and perseverance for the time, and give assuranceof enlarged offerings. But : our friends should bear in mind, (1) That notes for $25,000will fall due in March. (2)
