King George II statue and Old Royal Naval College (now home to the University of Greenwich), Greenwich, London, UK


Statue of King George II in the Grand Square of the Old Royal Naval College grounds. It was sculpted by Michael Rysbrack in 1735 and is made of a single piece of marble weighing 11 tons. The king wears the military clothes of a Roman Emperor and holds a sceptre and orb. Queen Anne Court (left), with Chapel and colonnade of Queen Mary Court. Queen's House can also be seen in the distance (bottom right). Maritime Greenwich is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
