Wheels of Kama and War, concrete water tanks painted with art work, located in Slab City, Niland, Southern California, USA.
This image is of one of two large concrete water tanks located in a abandoned World War 2 Marine barracks called Fort Dunlap. The area has now been renamed Slab City and is located near Niland, Southern California. Slab City is now populated by campers, many of them retired who use the site during the winter months. These "snowbirds" stay only for the winter, before migrating north in the spring to cooler climates. The temperatures during the summer are unforgiving; nonetheless, there is a group of around 150 permanent residents who live in the camp year round, most have been driven to Slab City through poverty. The 2 water tanks have been named 'The Wheels of War and Kama', the tanks are covered by art work, the Wheel of War depicts guns, bombs and weapons, it also depicts dinosaurs and the logo's of banks, oil and multi national companies. The art work carries a political and ecological message. The Wheel of Kama depicts fornicating creatures and scenes of a sexual nature.
