Voidokilia Beach in the Messinia area of the Greek Peloponnese is recognisable by its "Omega" shape when seen from high above on the path to Nestor's Cave. The beach is of golden sand and shelves gently to give safe bathing and swimming. in the summer it is very busy but almost deserted at other times of the year. The beach is remarkably free of cafes, shops and vendors. It is mentioned in Homer's "Odyssey". Legend has it that Odysseus landed here to be greeted by King Nestor. Archaeologists believe that the bay may have been King Nestor's port.
