Nicolo Polo, the father of Marco Polo, left Venice, Italy, in 1260 with his brother on a trading expedition to China. They returned in 1269. On their next trip to China, they took Marco with them, leaving in 1271 and returning home in 1295. This illustration shows Nicolo Polo at the court of the Khan (ruler) of Tartary, that is, Genghis Khan.
