Nicolas Kratzer, (1487 - 1550) was a German astronomer, mathematician and horologist who worked in England as King Henry the Eighth's royal astronomer. The painting here color enhanced is by Hans Holbein (1497 - 1543) who was friends with Kratzer and dates from 1528. It shows Kratzer surrounded by several scientific instruments that he designed.
