A plastic wad from a fired 12-bore shotgun cartridge washed up on the shores of Morecambe Bay, Lancashire England UK GB. A wad in a shotgun is designed to keep the gunpowder and shot apart. It also forms a seal in the barrel when the cartridge is fired and prevents gas from escaping around the pellets. It also absorbs some of the shock when the cartridge is fired and prevents the pellets from deforming.
