Emission nebula Sh2-142, optical image. The emission nebula Sh2-142 is associated with the open star cluster NGC 7380 (the brighter stars seen here). The nebula glows red as radiation from the newly formed stars ionises the hydrogen gas it contains. The nebula and cluster lie around 7000 light years from Earth, in the constellation Cepheus.
