On ac-count of the distance the spinal column and the posterior ribsappear diffused. The heart being situated so near the anteriorchest wall, shows its outline well marked. The shadow of the largeblood-vessels is less distinct. The shadows of the normal lungs,especially the middle portions, are extremely light. The upper dorsal vertebrae, as far as they are not obstructed bythe shadows of the heart and the large vessels, show fairly same applies to the three left dorsal vertebrae. The otherportions of the spinal column appear indistinct within their extentof the thorax. Abscesses can sometimes be recognised in this re-gion by using the diaphragm.
