Three British frigates, the Lark, the Dia-mond and the Juno, were lying at anchor with theirguard boats out on the east side of Prudence. Passingthe south end of Prudence with muffled oars, they heardthe sentinels cry: Alls well. These they passedsafely and in due time landed at the place of their des-tination. Barton divided his men into several squadsand advanced toward the house, passing the Britishguard house a hundred rods on the left, and a companyof light horse about the same distance on the squads approached the house from different di-rections to cut off all chance of Prescotts escape. Asone company approached the gate a sentinel challengedthem, but met with no reply. The sentinel then de-manded the countersign. Bar
