A book illumination from Caumartin Horae, a c. 1480 Biblical and Liturgical manuscript (MSS) , shows the Visitation.
This illustration replicates a book illumination from the Caumartin Horae, a Biblical and Liturgical manuscript (MSS) that was written in Artois around 1480. It shows the Visitation, which according to Christian belief, is when Mary, who, according to Christianity, was carrying Jesus Christ, the founder of Christianity, visits with her relative Elizabeth, who is also with child, a boy who will be known to Christians as St. John the Baptist. The details of the visitation are recorded in the Gospel of Luke and celebrated on May 31.
