It must, however, be noticed that the figures of fungi pub?lished by the latter almost all originate either from Vahl (149) orfrom Schumacher (414). In 1840 it was resolved that the portrayalof the fungi should cease a very wise resolution indeed as, with thematerials of that time, it was impossible to give a recognizable pictureof the small fungi, and, in fact, there are many figures of fungi inthe Flora Danica which are quite undeterminable. Rostrlip hasmade great efforts to find the right names of as many of them aspossible (see Joh. Lange: Nomenclator Florae Danicae, 1887, concer*ning Flora Danica see also Viborg: Historisk Udsigtover det Konge*lige Vaerk Flora Danica, Skand. Lit. Selsk. Frieshas contributed much to the explanation of the figures of the »FloraDanica« by quoting them in S. M., the same is the case with SfverinPftersfn (1907) and RAUNKLtR (88); I have, in most cases, followedthe explanation of Rostrlp. In only a few cases have I considered itjust to make some alterations. Oki)i;r is the author of Chlorosplenium aeruginosum and of Helsvella atra both brought to him by Koenig from Iceland. Oeder hasgreatly promoted Danish mycology not only by giving the impetus tothe publication of the Danica but also by working enthusiasmtically on the emancipation of the Danish peasants from vilienage, thisbeing a necessary condition of the revival of interest in plant cultureand plant diseases among the farmers.
