Suetonius writing The Twelve Caesars. Artwork showing the Roman historian Suetonius writing his 121 AD work 'De Vita Caesarum' (On the Life of the Caesars, or 'The Twelve Caesars'). In the background are statues in the Senate building (SPQR) of the Roman emperors he is writing about. An imperial eagle and regalia are at lower right. Title and publication details in Latin are across bottom. This artwork is from a 1691 Dutch edition of a collection of works by Suetonius. The editor of the book is named as the German philologist Johannes G. Graevius (1622-1703), and the Dutch publishers are named as Zyll and Schouten.
