The walking palm Socratea sp is similar to the Pambil palm except that it is smaller and it has fewer and larger stilt roots Both belong to a group called the fish tail palms because of the form of the leaves of their seedlings which can be seen growing in scattered spots across the forest floor Rain forest near the Pastasa River in south east Ecuador South America
