Airmen assigned to the 18th Medical Group walk alongside a Japanese coastal ship-mounted gun at the base of Mount Suribachi at Iwo Jima, Japan, March 23, 2022. Two days preceding the battle of Iwo Jima, a Japanese crew fired a similar gun at an approaching ship, causing a chain reaction of preemptive strikes. This gave away the positions of several other defensive positions, leading to the early destruction of about a dozen similar guns.
