The Weeping Tower, or Schreierstoren: a medieval defensive tower (1480), Amsterdam, Netherlands

The Weeping Tower or Schreierstoren: a medieval defensive tower (built 1480), Amsterdam, Netherlands, Europe. — The fortification derives its name from a romantic legend recounting that women saw their men off to sea from here. This tower is also where Henry Hudson sailed from in 1609 to discover the Hudson River in North America while looking for a quick route to the East Indies. It is now a cafe.
