Leaning forward, swingthe adz—^with both hands gripping thehandle—in an arc, and as the bottomof the arc approaches the beam, theblade strikes and takes out a thin chipfrom the surface. The shavings thusmade should not exceed three inches inlength. No spaces should be left be-tween the cuts. The bite should notbe split off at one end but should comeaway with the swinging blow. The up-ward swing of the arc should cut thesame as the downward arc. No self-respecting adzer ever leaves little practice
