The pancreas varies consideralDly, in different cases, in its size and weight. Itis usually from 6 to 8 inches long, about 1| inches in average breadth, and fromhalf an inch to an inch in thickness, being thicker at its head and along its upperborder than elsewhere. The weight of the gland, according to Krause and Clen-denning, is usually from 2j oz. to Sj oz.; but Meckel has noted it as high as 6 oz.,and Soemmerring as low as li oz. Fig. 550. vnr.
