Anson Burlingame, of whomhe was an ardent friend and supporter. Having re-moved to Lynn in 1856, he was chosen librarian ofthe Lynn Library Association, and until the outbreakof the war actively promoted the interests of that or-ganization, whose collection of books subsequentlybecame the nucleus of the present Public Library inthat city.
