After the surrender of Cornwallls a large number ofthe prisoners taken at that time were sent to FortFrederick. In September, 1791, by direction of the Legislature ofMaryland, Fort Frederick was sold to Robert Johnson, ofFrederick county, for three hundred and seventy-fivepounds, ten shillings, since which time it has belonged toa number of different people. For a short time duringthe Civil War the fort was occupied by some of GeneralKenlys CHAPTER Pre-Revolutionary Period.
