Town crier on steps of Guildhall Lyme Regis Dorset England
The Town Crier is an old means of conveying important announcements and news items to the inhabitants of a town informing. The town crier, in his distinctive costume, would attract the attention of the populace by ringing a bell and shouting the traditional cry of Oh Yez, Oh Lots of British Towns still have town criers, but in more modern times with much more efficient means of communication the crier is kept as a visitor attraction. When the Announcement is complete the crier finishes by raising his hat and calling out "God Save The Queen"
