Clothing rags from victims of Pol Pot's Security Prison 21 in Phnom Penh, who were murdered in the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek.
Most of the 17,000 detainees held by Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge at Security Prison S-21 in Phnom Penh were brutally murdered at the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek, 14km southwest of Phnom Penh. When The Vietnamese army liberated Phnom Penh in 1979 there were only seven prisoners alive in S-21. Mass graves were excavated, and over 8000 skulls placed in the Memorial Stupa at Choeung Ek, but for years afterwards, rains have washed clothing rags from the victims out of the ground.
