Its tunnel is about eight feet long,and branches off into two parts. The one forms a storehouse and the otherthe living part. This storehouse is filled with grain and nuts, which it hasbeen busv collecting all the summer. As soon as the marmot is ready to takeits long winter sleep it stuffs up the burrow with sticks and earth, so that thecold may not creep A FAMILY OF MARMOTS.
