17th-century post-mill on Brill Common, Buckinghamshire: one of the oldest in England it was in commercial use until 1916 by miller Albert Nixey.

This 17th-century post-mill, one of the oldest in England, was in commercial use until 1916. Albert Nixey was the last miller. It stands on Brill Common, 603ft () above sea-level, surrounded by the grassy mounds and hollows created by centuries of digging for clay to make pottery, and bricks to build the village. The body of the mill could be rotated around its central post to enable the sails to be turned into the wind. This photograph was taken July 1993, some of the timbers have since been restored (2007-9).
