Dotted granite boulders sunk in early snow, Kosciuszko National Park NSW Australia

Even though the wind was still bitingly cold, the warmth of the sun was finally getting through. I could feel my nose and was vaguely aware that my toes were still attached. I'd seen these 3 boulders and knew they had potential for a good foreground with the sun upon them. The first three are dynamic, leading the eye through a zig zag till you reach the misty ridgeline on the top right. Framing it was another matter. I had my widest lens attached but felt a less wider would be better. As per usual, in this icy wind, changing over was going to take time, and seeing the golden light was already upon them, there was no time. So I set about framing. I might as well have changed lenses as it took longer to compose all the elements within the frame. I'm sure there were about 100 different perferations on the snow where I had changed ever so slightly the angle of the tripod. In the end I had no choice but to slightly crop the final image so everything looked balanced. Its the placement of the key elements, along with the light and shadow, that makes the image.
