Thomas Cranmer (1489 – 1556) was a leader of the English Reformation and Archbishop of Canterbury during the reigns of Henry VIII, Edward VI and, for a short time, Mary I. However Mary had good cause to dislike Cranmer, not only was he the premier Protestant in England; he also annulled her parents’ marriage and subsequently married King Henry VIII to Anne Boleyn. He was burnt at the stake on 21 March 1556.
