Ancient custom gives the nameof a bezant to the golden roundel, and the folly of the heraldicwriters has found names for all the others, names which maybe disregarded together with the belief that, while bezants andsilver roundels, as representing coins, mirer be pictured with aflat surface, roundels of other hues must needs be shaded bythe painter to represent rounded balls.
