She mended our clothes, made our moccasins, cooked our dinner, baked us most excellent bread, and v/as altogether a great acquisition. The weather was fine, provisions abundant, and game plentiful— what more could a man want ? It is true that our whisky began to run short, and had to be economised ; we had Ijrought up a good supply for our party, but under the belief that two- thirds of them were teetotallers, as they rep- resented themselves to be. I am bound to say, however, with all due respect for that most excellent order, that after the first day's work there was only one teetotaller left, the rest of. fl.
