Chicago, Illinois USA. The variety of architecture for which the city is known is on full display in this small segment of the Chicago skyline. The white tower, at left, is one of Chicago''s original skyscrapers in a city known for the birthplace of skyscrapers, 75 E. Wacker Drive Building (formerly the Mather Tower and the Lincoln Tower), built in 1928 is the slimist skyscrapper in the city. The building consists of a 24-floor base with an 18-story octogan-shaped tower. The Neo-Gothic, terra cotta-clad building is designated as a Chicago Historic Landmark. To its immediate left and right are a pair of hotels, the London House (left) and the Wyndam Hotel. To the right of the Wyndam Hotel are another contrasting pair of buildings, the ultra-modern condominium structure, Aqua (also known as Aqua Tower and The Wave) completed in 2009 and, at far right another of Chicago's original skyscrapers, the Carbide and Carbon Building, dating from 1929 with its art-deco styling.
