This American Grand Union flag was raised byWashington over the camp of his Army at Cam-bridge, Mass., on January 1st, 1776, to the accom-panying salute of thirteen guns. By this flag the 13 colonies testified that thoughin arms, they still claimed to be Britons and were de-manding for themselves all the rights of citizenshipwhich such relation conferred.
