As he himself explainsin the catalogue, he has striven to express in thefour female figures the stages of human thought—?first dormant, then awaking, rising upward, andfinally taking flight into space, free, radiant, andimmortal. So one finds much charm andgracefulness in the panel by M. Roll, the Societysdistinguished President: also in the /•uite en Egyptepainted for a church by Madame Wehrl^ withtouching sentiment; a decided feeling for thepicturesque in the work of M. de la Neziere, LesKeligions de FIndc; a dramatic power in theEpisode de iSjo, by M.
