Pine needle scale infestations (fig. 32) are occasionally so heavy that infested trees present a gray, unhealthy appearance. Heavy infestations cause the needles to turn yellow and may kill parts of branches or entire young trees. Damage is particularly noticeable and troublesome on ornamental plantings in or near towns and cities. The twice-stabbed lady beetle is an important enemy of the species. 110
