Much attention is given tofactoring—emphasis being placed upon a few distinct types—the basis upon which the greatest part of Algebra is built. Inconnection with simultaneous linear equation the graph is in-troduced, special attention being given to two methods ofelemination. Quadratic equations are introduced through fac-toring. This is followed by the completion of the square, theoutcome of. which is the formula derived from the generalquadratic equation—a formula so important that it should befixed in the mind for use in the subsequent part of the logic of elementary Algebra is studied in connection withequivalent equation and extraneous roots. The years workincludes also a study of the theory of exponents and radical. — 40 —. PLANE GEOMETRY. The work in geometry is begun by requiring the studentto observe and construct the elementary geometric forms, andin this connection to learn the definitions. A clear conceptionof these is essential to an understanding of geometry, as theyform the basis of the subject. One of the chief objects of thestudy of geometry is to cultivate the habit of close observa-tion, of comparison, of exact logical thinking, and of clear ac-curate expression. To secure all this, the theorems in thetext are used, after which many exercises are furnished to testthe students ability to apply the principles learned from thedemonstration. One year is given to plane geometry. Solidgeometry may be elected. PHYSIOLOGY AND HYGIENE. This Course aims to give to teachers up-to-date scientificideas both as regards subject matter and methods of teach-ing. Special effort is made to present this subject attractivelyand tO lay emphasis upon aspects of the subject most worthwhile. Anatomy is
