Heinrich Caro. Portrait of the German chemist Heinrich Caro (1834-1910). He is best known as a pioneer in early synthetic dye chemistry. Born in Posen (now Poznan, Poland), he studied in Berlin, Germany. Caro's acid, permonosulphuric acid, a dye intermediate he prepared in 1898, is named after him.
