Known already for his splendid strains of asters, J. K. Rugowski, Manitowoc, Wis., has under his watchful care several notable things in gladioli. He plans to work further before making announce- ment regarding them. January business with the mail-order seed houses has not been in volume any- thing to raise high hojtes. The number of orders and the average size has liecn, with most houses, slightly ahead of last year, but not more than would be the result of the open weather this January. From present indications the Califor- nia crops of bulbs will be short this year, states H. A. Hyde, of the H. A. Hyde Co., Watsonville, Cal. "The reason for the shortage is the extraordinary winter we have been having,'' he says. '' Con- tinuous heavy rains have kept the ground cold and wet, with the result that much of the stock planted in the heavier soils has shown little growth during the last few months.'' BALTIMORE BANKRUPTCY CASE. To the creditors of J. Bolgiano & Son, Baltimore, Md., notices have been sent for their election of receiving either tlie amount of their claim in stock in a new corporation to be formed or about forty per cent of each one's claim in cash. The trustees are urging the creditors of this firm to accept the stock in the new corporation as being the most favorable way of settlement.
