Cretaceous sea. Artwork of a marine environment during the Upper Cretaceous period. A group of heteromorph ammonites (Didymoceras sp.) are floating, although the most recent research suggests they may have lived on the seafloor. At lower right are some gigantic Pachydiscus ammonites. In the background is a mosasaurus, a large fearsome swimming reptile.
