Capt. Thomas H. Winburn of San Antonio, Texas, shot down two of the 23 Japanese planes destroyed by American fighter pilots over Wau, New Guinea, on Feb. 6, 1943. The airman scattered a large enemy formation without the loss of a single fighter.
