G. & W. heattended high school at Roanoke, Ind., for atime and then became interested in the At-lantic News Co., at Meadville. In 1869 heagain entered the service of the A. G. & W., thistime as a brakeman. He was promoted toconductor, but in 1872 resigned to take a posi-tion as money clerk with the Union and Amer-ican Express WILLIAM D. REED In 1874, Mr. Reed again entered railroadservice with the Oil Creek Railway as chiefclerk in the freight office, and ticket agent atOil City, Pa.
