Trompe de Chasse in D 1789–1801 Courtois père Hunting horns are natural brass instruments (that is, without valves) and like bugles, sound only the limited sequence of notes in the harmonic series. This hunting horn is of the type called a trompe dauphine, which became the official hunting horn of the French court in 1729. As such, it was used until the French Revolution.
