TEAR, DRAWING

The lacrimal system secretes and excretes tears. Two lacrimal glands secrete tears. The first gland responds to irritation or vivid emotion, producing a reflex production of tears. The second gland produces a protective lacrimal film bathing the cornea. Tears are excreted via two orifices in the medial border of the eyelids. These orifices open into small ducts which guide the tears into a lacrimal sac situated in the medial angle of the eye and connected to the nasal cavity.
